Vickie Black

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Vickie Gail Black, 77, of Joplin, MO, went home to be with Jesus on March 17, 2025. She was born to Thomas and Imogene (Mitchell) Allison on August 24, 1947, in Terre Haute, Indiana, where her deep faith and strong love for family were nurtured from a young age.

Vickie attended Ozark Bible College from 1965 to 1968, where she met her husband, Tommie Black. After falling in love, they returned to Terre Haute, where they were united in marriage on October 11, 1969. Vickie graduated from beauty college and became a talented beautician.

However, her greatest calling was motherhood. After five years of waiting, God answered her and Tom’s prayers with the birth of their first child, Jennifer. Two years later, the Lord blessed them with a second child, Michael.

Vickie was a faithful pastor’s wife who loved and invested in people at every church they served in Indiana, Illinois, and Missouri. Vickie cared for and helped raise countless children, loving each of them as if they were her own. She maintained special bonds with many of those children and continued to pray for them long into their adult lives.

Vickie is survived by her children, Jen Black and Mike (Marla) Black; her two granddaughters, Molly Black, and Alanna Black; one brother, Tim (Pam) Allison; her beloved nieces and nephews; and her dear Aunt Gin Ray and Uncle Don Allison. She was preceded in death by her parents, Tom and Imogene Allison; her husband, Tom Black; and her two brothers, Mark Allison and Randy Allison; and sister-in-law, Donna Allison.

Vickie’s life was a testimony to God’s love, faithfulness, and grace. She touched countless lives with her warmth, kindness, mile-high pie, toffee, homemade chicken and noodles, and unwavering devotion to her family and faith. Her legacy of prayer, love, and perseverance will continue to be remembered by all who knew and loved Vickie.

Visitation will be held at Mason-Woodard Mortuary on Thursday, March 20, 2025, from 6:00 - 7:00 pm. A celebration of Vickie’s life will be held at Mason-Woodard Mortuary on Friday, March 21, 2025, at 10:00 am, with the graveside service at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery immediately following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to The Alliance of Southwest Missouri and/or Poinciana Christian Church’s Greater Things Campaign in her memory.
