Ruth Elizabeth Newberry, age 92, Webb City, passed away at 11:35 a.m. Sunday, September 30, 2018 at her home.
Ruth was born July 12, 1926 in Joplin to the late William A. West and Sadie Jane Hood West and had lived in Joplin all of her life.
She worked as an aide at Freeman Hospital and the former St. John's Regional Medical Center and Oak Hill hospitals for several years. She had also worked as a seamstress at the former Smith Brothers Manufacturing Company for several years. Ruth was a former member of Friendship Baptist Church and was currently a member of Christ's Community United Methodist Church. She was a fifty year member of Ruth Chapter #95, Order of Eastern Star. Ruth enjoyed ceramics and spending time with her family, especially all of her great and great-great grandchildren. She will be missed by all who knew her.
Ruth married James B. Newberry on July 22, 1944. He preceded her in death on August 28, 1998.
Ruth was also preceded in death by four brothers, B.B. West, Tom West, Gene West, Paul David West; and a granddaughter.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Newberry and his wife, Roberta, Rosehill, Kansas, Danny Newberry and his wife, Wanda, Chesapeake, Virginia; two daughters, Sherry Young and her husband, Mike, Webb City, Phyllis Chastain and her husband, Marvin, Carthage; one brother, Jim West and his wife, Shirley, Joplin; seventeen grandchildren; twenty six great grandchildren; and seven great great grandchildren.
Memorial services are planned for Friday at 3:00 p.m. at Christ's Community United Methodist Church. The family will receive friends following the services at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the Youth Group at Christ's Community United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
