Don Smith

Donald “Don” Dean Smith, age 85, of Carthage, MO passed away on Friday, September 20, 2019 at his home with his loving wife of 66 years by his side. Don was born to Mr. and Mrs. E.L. Smith of Superior, Nebraska on August 12, 1934. His family moved to Carthage when Don was five years old.

On June 11, 1953, Don went to work at H.E. Williams until he left there to take over the Vickers Service Station at 1005 W. Central. This was followed by him taking over the Vickers Service Station at 2001 Garrison until they closed. He then returned to H.E. Williams until he retired in 2000. Don was a member of the Kendricktown Methodist Church.

A couple of Don’s favorite pastimes were camping and playing cards (Rook) with Virgel, Wayne, Donnie and Alan.

Don married Mary Kathryn Hamilton on April 29, 1953 at the First Baptist Church of Carthage.










Don is survived by three children, Nancy Krummel (Charles), Donald Smith (Dianna) and Dean Smith (Ellen); seven grandchildren, Shaun Smith (Michelle), Keith Smith (Taria), Dustin Smith (Kelsie), Julia Rine (Joshua), Kimberly Chriswell (Barry), Sarah Prescott and Tyler Smith; 15 great grandchildren, Noah Krummel, Alexis Smith, Brooklyn Smith, Alyssa Smith, Destenie Smith, Avery Smith, Devin Smith, Madison Chriswell, Emma Chriswell, Seth Chriswell, Magnolia Chriswell, Adelyn Smith, Kaylee Smith, Isaiah Rine, and Macy Rine; one brother, Dale Smith (Elizabeth).

Don was preceded in death by three sisters, four brothers and one grandson.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at Ulmer Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fasken Cemetery, northeast of Carthage.

Contributions may be made to the Kendricktown Methodist Church.
