Larry G Martin, age 78, passed away at 6:07 am, Sunday, September 22, 2019 at Freeman West Hospital, Joplin, MO following an illness.
Larry was born June 25, 1941 in Galena, KS. His parents were Daniel and Mildred (Russell) Martin. He was a lifetime resident of Galena.
He graduated with the Galena High School Class of 1959. He then entered the US Navy, serving four years. He retired from Vickers, Joplin, MO as an assembly operator, a job he held for 20 years.
He was an active member of First Baptist Church, Galena, KS where he served in many capacities, including Church Clerk, Sunday school teacher, and church trustee.
Larry was married to Letha L Smittle on August 5, 1972 in Wichita, KS. She survives.

Additional survivors include two sons, Mike Martin (Traci), Lubbock, TX and Donnie Martin, Galena, KS; two brothers, Jerry “Jeff” Martin (Linda), Galena, KS and Jeff Martin (Joyce), down in the Ozarks; one sister, Sheila Crowder (Lonnie), Grove, OK three grandchildren, Seth Martin, Audrey Hendricks, and Jared Martin, and one great-grandson, Jade Martin.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Chuck Martin, 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
Funeral services will be at 1:00 PM, Wednesday, September 25, 2019 at First Baptist Church, Galena, KS. Pastor Aaron Polok will officiate. Arrangements are under the direction of Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena, KS
Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church in care of the funeral home.
