Gary Lee Shipman, age 78, Carthage, Missouri, passed away Tuesday morning, September 24, 2019 at Mercy Hospital, Joplin, Missouri. Gary was born August 26, 1941 in Carthage, Missouri to the late Harlin Shipman and Alice (Lemery) Shipman.
He was a 1959 graduate of Sarcoxie High School and then received his B.S. degree in business from Missouri Southern. Gary was a proud veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army.
He married Debra Johnson on October 11, 2006 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas. He worked in the sales department for Lowe’s.
Survivors include his wife, Debra; two daughters, Amanda Cox (husband Mark), Carl Junction, Missouri, and Jill Shipman, Anchorage, Alaska; two sons, Gary Shipman, Jr. (wife Rhoda), Zion, Illinois, and Doug Shipman (wife Maria), Glenview, Illinois; four brothers, Dale Shipman (wife Rebecca), Clinton, Missouri, Jerry Shipman, Kansas City, Missouri, Richard Shipman, Carthage, and Robert Shipman, Kansas City; and ten grandchildren with one on the way.
He was also preceded in death by one son, Michael Peterson; and one brother, Danny Shipman.
Visitation will be held 1:00-1:30 pm, Monday, September 30, 2019 at Knell Mortuary, Carthage. Memorial services will follow the visitation at 1:30 pm. Online condolences may be expressed through www.knellmortuary.com. Arrangements are under the direction and personal care of Knell Mortuary.
