Norman “Parker” Foster, 83, Neosho, MO passed away Sept. 21, 2019 after a short illness.
Parker was born Jan. 7, 1936 in Neosho to Norman Eugene and Mildred Irene (Daugherty) Foster. He and Doris A. Cook were married on June 5, 1962 in Neosho; she preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 1992.
Parker graduated from Neosho High School in 1954. He enlisted in the US Army in 1958 and proudly served as a cook while stationed at the military base on Enewetak Atoll Island until 1960. He was an employee of the United States Postal Service until his retirement in 1995. He took the phrase “neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night slows these carriers from the completion on their appointed rounds” very seriously as he rarely missed a day. He and Doris were both members of the National Rural Letter Carriers Association/Auxiliary. They enjoyed traveling together to different areas of the country each summer to attend the state and national conventions.
His love for the family farm was unmeasurable. He was the happiest when he was outside with the cows, in the hay fields, or keeping his garden watered and weed-free. He would always grow an abundance of produce for the sole purpose of sharing or giving away to friends and family.
Parker is survived by two sisters, Juanita Lynn, Pleasant Hill, CA and Bernice Kippes, Junction City, KS; two daughters, Lisa A. Hunter and husband, Kevin, Houston, TX and Linda K. Poore and husband, Mike, Neosho, MO; four grandchildren, Evan Hunter, Shea Hunter, and Nicholas Hunter, Houston, TX and Dylan Poore, Neosho; and one great grandchild, Jaci Lynn Poore, Neosho.
Services will be held 10:00 am, Friday, Sept. 27, 2019 at Clark Chapel of Memories, Neosho, with Dr. Jerry Seigel officiating. Interment, with full military honors, will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Neosho. Kevin Hunter, Evan Hunter, Mike Poore, Dylan Poore, Bob Foster, and Justin Smith will serve as pallbearers. A time of visitation will be held on Friday morning beginning at 9:00 am until service time.
