John Windle

Dr. John Clifton Windle, age 93, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away September 26, 2019.
He was born November 20, 1925, in Joplin, Missouri, to Frank Wm. and Vera L. (Faulkner) Windle.

Dr. Windle attended Joplin Junior College from 1943-1944 and Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri, from 1944-1945. He served as a United States Navy Corpsman until 1946. He then served as First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army in Nuremberg, Germany, and was promoted to Captain in 1950. Dr. Windle graduated from UMKC School of Dentistry in 1949 and married Joan Sweatt the same year. She preceded him in death in 2007.








He began his own dentistry practice in 1950 at 320 Frisco Building in Joplin, Missouri. He was a past member of the Missouri Dental Board and served on the board for eight years. He was a past member of the Central Regional Dental testing for 11 states and served on the board for 20 years. He was the co-founder of the Dental Hygiene School at MSSU. He was a member of the Southwest Dental Association for over 50 years, and Past President of the Joplin Rotary Club, as well as serving as an Elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Joplin, Missouri.

Dr. Windle married Barbara Louis Baker on December 9, 2008, and she survives.

He is also survived by two daughters, Diana S. Miller of Taos, New Mexico, and Pamela J. Staley of Denver, Colorado; two stepdaughters, Rosana Brothers and Cheri Corner; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren who he adored very much.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2019, at the First Presbyterian Church in Joplin, Missouri, with Rev. John Nipper officiating. Burial with full military honors will follow at the Mt. Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 - 7:00 p.m. Tuesday at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary.
