Loretta Mayo

Loretta Pearl Mayo, age 92, of Joplin, MO, passed away on Tuesday September 10, 2019.

Loretta was born on January 4, 1927 in Joplin, the daughter of the late Edward and Ada (Mayfield) Allen. She has been a lifetime area resident. She married Richard Ashley “Bill” Mayo on November 15, 1941 and together they had three children. She was a lifelong member of the First Gospel Workers Church. She taught Sunday School for forty-six years, teaching ages 5-8 from 1954 to 2001.

She was preceded in death by her husband Bill Mayo on June 6, 1952; one son, Eugene Mayo; a great-grandson, Tyler Box; and by three brothers, Edward Allen, Jr., Donald Allen, and Eugene Allen.








Loretta is survived by two daughters, Linda Ann Mayo, Joplin; Wanda Jane Williams and husband Harold, Joplin; a daughter-in-law, Sharon Mayo, Joplin; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Rohmiller and husband Randall, Pete Box and wife Amy, Mark Box and wife Lisa, Aaron Box and wife Kimi, Paula Briley and husband Eddie, Ava Potterfield and husband Doug, and Tony Williams and wife Tina; seventeen great-grandchildren; and twenty-four great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday at the First Gospel Workers Church at 1463 West Perkins. Reverend Phil Erwin will officiate. Burial will be in Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery. The pallbearers will be her great-grandsons.

The visitation will be 6-7 p.m. Thursday at Mason-Woodard Chapel. Memorial contributions may be given to First gospel Workers Church in care of the mortuary.
Arrangements are under the direction of Mason-Woodard Mortuary & Crematory.
