Kenneth Schroer

Kenneth J. Schroer, age 65, of Joplin, Missouri passed away Wednesday, September 25, 2019, at his home with family by his side.

He was born December 24, 1953 in Joplin, Missouri to Robert and Agnes (Mahoney) Schroer.

Ken was Assistant Director of Facilities Management and Safety Director at Freeman Health System, retiring in February 2018.

He was a member of St Mary’s Catholic Church where he served as a lector, altar server, Knights of Columbus member and vocalist in the choir.








He had a passion for golf, travel, horse racing and spending time with his family.

Ken attended McAuley Catholic High School and graduated in 1972. He was an honor student, multi sport standout, class officer, and a proud member of the “Big 5”. While earning his Bachelor’s degree at MSSC, he shined behind home plate as the Lions catcher.

He married Tina Stephens on September 25, 1987 in Joplin, Missouri. They celebrated 32 years of marriage on the day he passed.

Tina survives, as well as six daughters, Amy Schroer, Bethany Schroer, Jennifer Schroer (Kevan Martone), Adena Burks (Wayne), Paula Hurl (William), Whitney Dixon (Andrew) and one son, Chadwick Hunter. He was blessed with eight grandchildren, Averi and Allie Burks, Keenan and Marshall Hurl, Greyson Schroer Elick, California and Diem Martone, and Olivia Dixon, one brother, Robert Schroer, one sister Mary Ann Turk as well as numerous extended family and friends.

Ken was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Adena Schroer.

A special thank you to Dr. Bernard Bettasso and staff, Dr. Matt Miller and staff, and Compassus Hospice.

A Rosary will be recited at 6:00 pm Monday September 30, 2019 at the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary with visitation following from 6:30 pm until 8:00 pm.

A Memorial Mass will be conducted at 10:00 am Tuesday October 1, 2019 at St Mary’s Catholic Church with Father Joseph Weidenbenner officiating.

In memory of Ken, the family request memorial contributions be made to St Vincent DePaul Society. Contributions may be sent in care of the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of the Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary Joplin, Missouri.
