Katie Harlan

Katherine “Katie” Laverne Wagner Harlan, age 97, Joplin, passed away at 2:11 p.m. Tuesday, September 24, 2019 at her residence.

Katie was born September 23, 1922 in Wichita, Kansas, to the late Richard Raymond Watkins and Eve Mae Burris and had lived in Joplin since 2012.

Katie was dedicated to her family and took pride in raising her children. She never met a stranger and made friends everywhere she went. She loved living life to its fullest, telling stories, and was an avid reader, reading a book a day.

When she wasn't doing something for others, Katie enjoyed all types of arts and crafts. She even had personalized tags for items she made that read, “Katie did it”. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.








In addition to her parents, Katie was preceded in death by a son, Gary K. Wagner, her brother, Richard Eugene Wagner and two husbands; Ben Butler Wagner, to whom Katie was married fifty-seven years until his passing in 1998; and Robert Evart Harlan who passed in 2013.

Katie is survived by five children, Dennis L. Wagner and wife, Patti, Carthage, Missouri, Marilyn J. Schuman, Chicago, Illinois, D. Scott Wagner, Pittsburg, Kansas, Karyl K. Vestal and husband, Gary, Quapaw, Oklahoma, Christopher L. Wagner and wife, Denise, Carthage, Missouri; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great grandchildren; and several extended family members.

A Celebration of Life will be held on October 19th, 2019 at Generations Freewill Baptist Church.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Bill & Virginia Leffen Center for Autism in care of Parker Mortuary.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
