Gerald Casey

Gerald Emmett Casey, age 94, passed away Sunday, September 22, 2019 at his home. He was born January 14, 1925 in rural Chetopa, Cherokee Co., KS, to Thelston A and Dora (Stapleton) Casey. He was a long time member of the Faulkner (KS) Christian Church and regularly attended the First Christian Church in Chetopa.

He was married to Nancy “Jerry” Shelley March 14, 1948 in Anchorage, AK. He served in WW II in the 751st Tank Battalion, and was awarded a Purple Heart from injuries he received in a tank battle. He worked in Alaska before working at the Kansas Army Ammunition Plant, Parsons, KS. He owned Casey Bros. Lumber Co in Oswego with his brother, Dean, and farmed in Cherokee County for many years.








Survivors include two sons, Charles and wife, Connie of Joplin, MO, and Clark and wife Kari of Galena, KS; one daughter, Susan and husband, Lynn Jeffery of Oswego, KS; one sister, Melba Barlow of Caney, KS; two grandchildren, Emmett Casey and Nicole Kennard and husband Joe.
Preceded in death were his parents, his wife, Nancy, one sister Ann May DeLoy, and two brothers, Charles and Dean.

The family will receive friends from 9:00 am to 10:00 am, Friday, September 27, 2019 at Derfelt Funeral Home, Oswego, KS.

Following Gerald’s’ request, a graveside service will be at 10:00 am, Friday, September 27, 2019 at Oswego Cemetery, Oswego, KS with Terry Robison officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice, 3106 Main St, Parsons, KS 67357.
