Sylvester Lawrence Vermillion, Sr., 83, Neosho, MO entered into rest September 27, 2019. He was born March 14, 1936 on Standing Rock Souix Indian Reservation in Kenel, South Dakota to Charles Vermillion, Jr, and Rose Mae (Sac) Vermillion.
Sylvester served in the US Marine Corps from 1959-1963. He worked as a machinist for Caterpillar Tractor for 31 years. Sylvester enjoyed football, the outdoors, hunting, traveling, and proudly teaching his Lakota heritage to his family.
He and Jane McDaniel were married November 20, 1964 in Miami, OK; she survives.
Additional survivors include four children, Shelly MacBean and husband, John of Cornell, IL, Stephanie Vermillion and significant other, Charles Williams of Joliet, IL, Sylvester Vermillion, Jr. of Columbia Falls, MT, and Lea Vermillion and significant other, Anthony Greenham of Buffalo, MO; one step-brother, Adgie Martin of Minneapolis, MN; one sister, Angeline Montclair of Fort Yates, ND; one step-sister, Alvina Martin of Kenel, SD; twelve grandchildren; and five great grandchildren.
Sylvester was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Jodi; two grandsons; five brothers; and two sisters.
A time of visitation will be held Wednesday, October 2, 2019 at Clark Funeral Home, Neosho, MO from 5:00 pm until 6:00 pm. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Thursday, October 3 at Clark Funeral Home Chapel of Memories, Neosho with Dr. Jerry Seigel officiating.
Interment will be Thursday at 2:00 pm at Missouri Veteran’s Cemetery, Springfield, MO. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Fosdick, Trevor Vermillion, Tyler Vermillion, Shayna MacBean, Stanley Vermillion, John MacBean II, and Cheyenne MacBean.
