Jack William Foster, age 94, of rural Lamar, passed away Sunday, May 21, 2017 while visiting family in Fort Smith, Arkansas.
Jack was born September 6, 1922, in Dade County, Missouri, to John and Ramola (Leivan) Foster. He entered the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the European Theater during World War II. Returning home in 1946, Jack trained in diamond setting, clock repair and engraving, preparing him for a long and enjoyable career as a jeweler. On October 8, 1945, he married Maxine Glass and they made their home in Kansas City, Clay Center, and Atchison, Kansas. After retiring in 1987, Jack and Maxine moved to Barton County, where Jack shared the abundance of his vegetable gardens with family, neighbors, and friends. As long as their health permitted, they attended and appreciated the fellowship of Grace Christian Assembly near Verdella.
Survivors include Maxine, his wife of nearly 72 years; two sons, Jewell (Gynith) Foster, Fort Smith, Arkansas and Terry (Carolyn) Foster, Blanchard, Oklahoma; a daughter, Rosalyna Kay Foster, Lamar; a sister-in-law, Maxine Foster, Lawrence, Kansas; six grandchildren, Javanna (Jason) Wood, Murfreesboro, Tennessee, Deanna (Jimmy) Ramsey, Fort Smith; Jonathan (Jennifer) Foster, Conway, Arkansas, Nathan (Joyce) Pipes, Rockdale, Texas, Linda Lou (Carl) Hancik, Chuluota, Florida, and Rebecca Sue (Allan) Piercy, Canute, Oklahoma; 18 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.
Jack was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Virgil Foster; a sister, Bertha Foster; a granddaughter, Charlene Swaim; two grandsons, Zachary Pipes and Ayden Wood; and two great-great grandbabies.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 Friday, May 26th at Daniel Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will be in St. James Cemetery north of Milford, Missouri.
