Samuel “Sam” J. Howard, age 67 of Joplin, Mo. passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at Freeman Hospital following an illness.
Sam was born on October 6, 1949 in Joplin, the son of Stephen and Mary Elizabeth (Morgan) Howard. He has been a lifetime area resident. Sam was self-employed as an automotive service equipment salesman and repairman. He had an incredible sense of humor and enjoyed life. Sam raced funny cars for 20 years and was an avid wrestling fan. But most of all he loved spending time and loving his family, rarely missing a ball game.
He married Patricia Maryman on October 20, 1978 in Miami, Ok., she preceded Sam in death on December 27, 2012. Sam was also preceded by his parents and by a brother, Stephen L. Howard.
Survivors include a daughter; Mackenzie Pounds and husband Tim of Joplin, two sons; Dustey Howard and wife Amber of Joplin, Brad Howard and wife Stormi of Joplin, two sisters; Carolyn Howard of Neosho, Mo., Marolyn Higgins of Joplin, an aunt, Wilma Howard, and seven grandchildren, Tayler, Garrett, Sammy, Nolan, Tucker, Jaxon and Kaden.
Funeral services have been scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 13, 2017, at the Mason-Woodard Chapel. Burial will follow at Osborne Memorial Cemetery. The family will receive friends during a time of visitation from 6 to 7 p.m. Monday evening at the funeral home.
