George M. “Buck” Ritchie, 85, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri.
Buck was born on February 28, 1936 in Carthage, Missouri to Ray and Emma Rose Ritchie. He attended Monitor Grade School and Carthage Senior High, graduating in 1952.
Buck worked in the Hardware Business most of his working life starting at age 16 at Carthage Hardware, then Carlson Hardware in Joplin. He worked in the flooring industry for a few years and then returned to the hardware business selling for Belknap, Inc. and Orgill Brothers. In semi-retirement he worked for Midway Lumber of Joplin, and Tapjac and Bartons in Carthage.
Buck loved the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and gardening. He started doing woodworking projects later in life and enjoyed that also.
He loved his family and friends and was always ready to extend a helping hand.
He was a 50 Year Mason and a Shriner.
Buck is survived by his wife, Patty; two children, Donald Wayne and Kyle Ann; three grandchildren; his sister Retah Arthur; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
Buck is preceded in death by his mother and father; one son, George Alan; and his brother Kenneth.
Buck will lie in state from 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM Friday, May 21 at Ulmer Funeral Home and a Graveside Service will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday, May 22 at Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Senior Center in Carthage or the charity of your choice.
