Shirley Clayton

Shirley J. Clayton, 81, Winter Park, Florida, formerly of Sarcoxie, Missouri, died after a three week struggle with pneumonia. She was born June 1, 1938 in Stotts City, Mo. Her father was Hershel Onis Batson and her mother was Eula Viola Stigall of Stotts City, Mo. Mrs. Clayton passed away at 8:20 p.m. on Friday, November 1, 2019.

Mrs. Clayton lived and attended church in southwest Missouri most of her life. She retired from the restaurant business after many years working as a waitress and a manager. She owned and operated the restaurant Shirley's Place, located in Sarcoxie, Mo. during the 1980s and 1990s. She was well-known for cooking delicious food and treating all people with love and respect.






 

She married Kenneth L. Oakes in 1955. She married Carl V. Clayton October 10, 1975. Both preceded her in death.

A son, Charles Edward Oakes, died in 2013.

Survivors include three sons, Kenneth H. Oakes and Thell Oakes, both of Hogeye, Ark. and Terrance Oakes; two daughters, Mrs. Rebecca Legg, Winter Park, Fl. and Mrs. Francine Williams, Tampa, Fl.; 12 grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.

Graveside services are 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Moore Cemetery, west of Stotts City, with Pastor Don Sullivan officiating. Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Housh-Goodwin Funeral Home in Sarcoxie, Missouri.
