Charles graduated from Granby High School in 1957. He joined the Navy that same year and proudly served as an air traffic radio controlman for 20 years. After retiring, he attended Crowder College earning his Associate’s Degree and then Missouri Southern graduating with high honors, earning his Bachelor’s Degree. He worked for Dyno-Noble until he retired.
He loved his wife Betty with his whole heart; even when he faced dementia, he never stopped looking for her, finding comfort in her presence. He also loved the Lord and was a faithful member of the Granby Church of God for over 40 years; serving as a Sunday School teacher, Church Treasurer, van driver, and whatever else was asked of him. Grandpa Charlie and Papa Charlie were his two proudest titles.
When his sister-in-law, Leta Bowman, passed away unexpectedly, he answered the call to offer love and support to his “bonus” children (his nieces and nephews), and eventually their children. He adored and cherished all his grandchildren, filling a role in their lives that he freely chose to fill. He loved to take his grandkids fishing, to the movies, to the park, and on any adventure that they wanted to go on. If they had a ballgame, school or church event he was there.
He was a constant and steady presence in the life of all that knew him, especially his family, offering advice, wisdom, a story, or a quirky one-liner to make you smile and laugh. He will be remembered as a devoted and loving husband, father, faithful follower of Jesus Christ, and the best papa and grandpa a child could dream of having. He will be dearly missed by his family, loved ones, and friends.
The family would like to thank the Granby House, who loved and cared for “Uncle Charlie”. Your kindness, respect, and love will never be forgotten.
