(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)On May 17, 2021, Vernon Lovell passed on to a better place.
He was an amazing son, brother, husband, father, grandpa, friend, and uncle.
Vernon was born on Sept. 27, 1942 to William and Gladys Lovell.
His parents along with three of his brothers; Edward, Robert, and LeRoy and two of his sisters; Fanny and Ida, preceded him in death.
Vernon is survived by his sister Mary Mitchell and by his brother Henry Lovell.
Vernon married Barbara Jean Spence on June 16, 1963, she preceded him in death on April 29, 2012, but from this union he had four daughters and their spouses, Pamela Kohler and her husband Jamie, Paula Kenworthy and her husband JR, Penny Lovell, and Peggy Lovell.
Vernon is survived by two grandchildren Sydney Holtsman and Stacy Kenworthy and was preceded in death by his third grandchild, Marty Kenworthy. He is survived by many nieces and nephews.
He served in the Navy from 1960 to 1962 and was a pipe liner with Local 798 out of Tulsa, OK for most of his life. He retired in January of 2000 after 36 years of service. Vernon loved to fish, play cards, dominos, bowling and was a pro at horseshoes. He could also be found hunting rabbit with his father-in-law, Gene, on occasion. Vernon was both an aluminum can and pecan connoisseur, he would happily stop and pick up any can he saw as well as his yearly trips to the Fletcher farm so his wife would have the pecans needed for candies, pies, and breads for her torrent of Christmas baking.
He supported his four girls in any and every adventure we chose to tackle.
When we played soft ball, he was a referee; when were in girl scouts, he would help at our camping events; when we were in bowling, he was right there in the lanes beside us. He worked hard to provide for his family.
We four girls adored our dad and would have done anything to make his life better. And in the end, I do believe we succeeded at that.
The family would like to extend thanks to:
Betty Boykin, a long-time friend of Mom and Dad. She would always call and check in on him and made sure to wish him a Merry Christmas.
Mr. John Matters for taking the time to come and visit dad every week and bring him coffee or a strawberry banana smoothie. He looked forward to and enjoyed your visits and for this we are eternally grateful.
Lanny Peavler, for stopping by when time permitted to catch dad up on all the latest hub bub.
We would like to whole-heartedly thank all of Dad’s caregivers: JoAnn Stanley, Mary Spencer, Cheryl Brock, Annette Webb, and Samantha Ogle. We could not have made it through without your help and support. Thank you for helping care for our dad.
We also wish to provide huge amounts of gratitude and thanks to Chelsea and Margie from Compasses Hospice. You two were amazing along with all the staff who helped us.
Our Dad was always the one to fill a room with laughter and we know that he would want us to find reasons to smile. If you would be so kind as to give us grace and allow us to leave this with a fond memory.
Dad, Paula, and I (Pam) were going to R&S Chevrolet. We were in his Green Pick Up, and he had gotten out to talk to someone. Well, Paula and I were roughhousing and somehow put the truck in gear. Let me tell you what, talk about two scared kids. Of course, as Dad looks up and sees his truck rolling down the hill and gaining speed, he caught up to that truck, never saw someone run so fast in my life, and stopped it. After he made sure we were okay he says to us: “DO NOT TELL YOUR MOM.” I still giggle about this incident to this very day.
Please leave any fond memories or stories about Vernon on this page.
We would love to hear and read anything you could share.
From the Lovell girls.
