Cathy Smith

(From Parker Mortuary)

Cathy Caye Smith, 69, of Carthage, Missouri, transitioned into her heavenly home on Friday, May 28, 2021 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Cathy was born December 30, 1951 in Joplin to the late Paul and Marjorie (Smith) Cress.

Cathy attended Parkwood High School, where she graduated in 1969. She spent the early part of her life working in the family restaurant, alongside her parents and siblings. She was currently working at Missouri Metal Recycling, Inc. as an office manager alongside her best friend, Johnnie Boyd, for over 20 years.

Cathy was a diehard Chiefs fan and an avid animal lover. She was a life-long supporter of Joplin Humane Society. Cathy was a wild child growing up. She was always a strong woman who did things her way and wasn’t afraid to speak her mind.

She raised three strong, beautiful children who loved her unconditionally. After raising her kids, she was thrilled to have grandchildren. All her grandchildren were the light of her life. She also has several fur babies that she loved who will miss her greatly.

In addition to her parents, Cathy was preceded in death by a special aunt, Alice Patoja; and her fur babies, Baby G, Rosie, and Joey.

Cathy is survived by her three children, Chad Jimerson and wife, Sandy, Ashley Grant and husband, James, and Amanda Smith and husband, Alex; eight grandchildren, Blaine and his wife, Tyra, Caleb, Jude, Ella, Sydney, Logan, Katelynn, and Midge; one great-granddaughter, Hadley; three siblings, Susan Petty and husband, Frank, Kim Bell and husband, Biff, and Alan Cress and wife, Tammi; and a longtime companion, Mike Scriven; and her precious fur babies, Buddy, Sister, and Izabell.

A Celebration of Life will be held from 5-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at Parker Mortuary Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Joplin Humane Society would be deeply appreciated. Arrangements are under the special care of Parker Mortuary.
