(From Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home)Gloria Sue (Irby) Gold, age 83, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away at 2:54 p.m. on Friday, May 21, 2021, at her home. She was born September 3, 1937, in Aurora, the daughter of Luther Landis and Marcella Catherine (Wallace) Irby.
Gloria was a 1955 graduate of Aurora High School and St. Paul’s School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri.
Throughout her life she had various careers. She was a supervisor for MWM Color Press, worked for McNatt Insurance Agency and was the co-owner of Gold Real Estate Company all in Aurora.
She was the church pianist/organist from about her 8th grade school year 1951 until her call to ministry in 1989. She then left the organ bench and served as a United Methodist Local Pastor for 14 years. Her ministry led her to Oronogo, Muncie Chapel, Wheaton, Stella, Fairview, Sarcoxie, Diamond and Red Oak. She was a member of PEO, the Aurora Historical Society and was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church.
Gloria loved life and grew up being one of Aurora’s “three little Irby girls”. She valued her faith, her family, and her love for her community. She touched so many lives through her time as a community business leader, church organist, and then a United Methodist Pastor of eight different churches. She will be missed by the many lives she loved.
On September 23, 1955, she married Jack “Eddie” Gold in Aurora. He preceded her in death on November 7, 2004.
Gloria is survived by one sister, Linda Rauch and her husband, Tom; two granddaughters, Stephanie Mahan and Tara O’Brien, all of Aurora; one grandson, Corey Lowry of Springfield, Missouri; five great-grandchildren, Marissa, Rylan, and Ila Mahan, and Danielle and Dylan Houser; two step granddaughters, Samantha and Jessica, of Aurora; two sisters-in-law, June Shipman of Springfield and Joyce Gold of Arizona; seven nieces, Rhonda Olafson and her husband, Bill with children James and Lisa; Paula Learn and her husband, Peter with children, Josh and Tristan; Marla Rivera and her husband, Scott with children, Austin and Ashley; Tammi Mattox and her husband, Brian and children, Preston, Brandon, and Dillon; Renee Neill and her husband, Mike with children, Myleigh, Bria and Sydnei; Leslie Piar and her husband, Pete with children, Jocelyn and Jonas, and Jill Gold and her daughter, Jenna and family, along with other family and friends.
Gloria was preceded in death by her parents, Luther “Jakie” and Marcella, Gloria’s husband, Eddie, two sons, Gregory, and Steven Gold, one sister and brother-in-law, Carol and Vic Rapp, brother-in-law, Kenneth Gold, and her dog soulmate, Flash.
A Celebration of Life, under the direction of the Crafton-Cantrell Funeral Home in Aurora, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 25, 2021, at the Aurora United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at the Maple Park Cemetery in Aurora. Visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021, in the funeral home chapel.
Memorial donations may be made payable to the donor’s choice, in care of the funeral home.
