(From Parker Mortuary)David Emery Sly, 79, of Carthage, passed away Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at Freeman Hospital in Joplin.
David was born September 22, 1941 in Fullerton, California to the Emery and Agnes (Hasenplaugh) Sly. He attended schools in Carl Junction. David worked for Wayne Daniel Trucking for many years and also in the machining department for Bagcraft. He retired from work in 2019.
David loved to visit the local casinos and especially loved going to Cherokee Casino in Grove. He enjoyed fishing in his younger years. David loved being near the water his entire life and always enjoyed spending time at the lake. He was approachable and the world’s best talker. David loved his family, especially his grandbabies, and he was such a loving Grandpa to them. He will be greatly missed.
David was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, George Sly; and his aunt and uncles, Imogene and Rex Keys and David Hasenplaugh.
He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Kay (Goodwin) Sly, of Asbury; his son, David Sly, Jr., of Waco; his granddaughter, Tesha Crow, of Carl Junction; two great-granddaughters, Faith and Kaylee; his niece, Barbara Biss, and her husband, Walter; as well as a host of extended family and many friends.
The family will hold a memorial gathering at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, May 23, 2021 at 19712 Aspen Road, Diamond, Missouri. Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
