Donnie Mitchell

(From Ozark Funeral Home)

Mr. Donald “Donnie” Wayne Mitchell, 67, passed away peacefully on August 6, 2022 at his home in Newtonia, Missouri. He entered heaven’s portal after a valiant battle to defeat the cancer he was diagnosed with 2 ½ years ago.

Donnie was born July 7th, 1955, in Neosho, Missouri to parents, Dewayne Dee Mitchell and Margie Lou (Eads)Mitchell who preceded him in death.

Survivors who mourn his passing include best friend and faithful companion, Becky Shelley, two sons, Jeremy Mitchell (Bo), Adam Mitchell (Lauren), six grandchildren: Lily, Logan, Emma, Tylena (Zach), Sydney and Hanna, one great grandchild: Jasmine, also surviving is a sister, Tammie Schneider, and twin brother, Ronnie (Retha). He lovingly “adopted” Becky’s daughter, Ashley Couch and husband Ricky, and their three children: Brody, Cooper and Huck, with whom he shared many wonderful times with. He also left many other relatives and friends who will dearly miss him.

Donnie attended schools in Anderson, graduating from McDonald County High School in 1973. He was an excellent carpenter and worked in that field many years before starting employment with Marsh Engineering as Shipping and Receiving Coordinator. He resigned that job and took a position as custodian with the McDonald County School system, retiring in 2020 where he met many of the staff who became wonderful friends.

Donnie professed his faith in Jesus Christ in his young adult life and kept that faith to the end. He attended the Presbyterian Church in Grove, Oklahoma.

Donnie enjoyed life to the fullest and was dearly loved by family and friends. Donnie enjoyed times spent with family, especially his grandchildren. Donnie was a man that was straight-forward. He didn’t beat around the bush. You knew where he stood in a matter. He was always friendly and helpful and cared about people. Whenever he heard someone he knew was in the hospital, he went to see them as soon as he could. If someone passed way, he made sure he went to the funeral or visitation if at all possible.

Donnie and Ronnie celebrated their 67th birthday together, one month earlier, as they had many times before. With laughter and family and friends around, he enjoyed every minute of it. He loved many sports but especially loved tennis in his earlier years, playing doubles with Ronnie or in competition against him. He also loved playing golf and fishing.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Ozark Funeral Home beginning at 5:00 p.m. until service time. The memorial service will begin at 6:00 p.m. with Pastors Mark Taylor and Mark Kuiper officiating.

Donnie’s remains will be placed in the Mitchell Cemetery at a later date. Memorial donations may be designated for the Mitchell Cemetery in care of the funeral home.
