(From Bath-Naylor Funeral Home)Carole Donna Westlund Mitchell, age 87 died peacefully on January 1, 2023 after suffering a stroke while on vacation.
Known simply as “Granny” to all. She would be the first to say, “Carole was my birth given name, Granny is my official name.” Granny was born on July 17, 1935 in Kansas City, Missouri. A graduate of Kansas City Manual Vocational High School, and member of the Sewing Club. A Kansas City native, Granny was a housewife most her young adult life.
She relocated to Golden City, Missouri to care for her elderly father, then followed her granddaughter (and caregiver), Tyleen Winterbower II) Caffrey to Pittsburg, Kansas when Tyleen enrolled to Pittsburg State University. When Tyleen obtained a teaching job in New Mexico, Granny relocated, and has made Clovis, NM her home for the past five years.
Her greatest loves were watching the news, rooting for the KC Chiefs and KC Royals, chatting on the phone, coloring or writing letters and searching for a way to eat her desserts before dinner. She loved to travel in her RV, sing gospel music, “raise the roof,” and she never missed a beat to ask “how many hits” did she get on her social media videos. She never met a stranger. She loved everyone, and will be remembered for her kind hearted spirit.
Survivors include her daughter Anna (Stanley) Hazel, Vandalia, MO, Robert Mitchell, Joplin, MO.
