Charlie Sliger

Charles Z. Sliger Sr., age 88, passed away at 12:01 am, Thursday, January 12, 2023, at Westgate, Joplin, MO following an illness.

“Charlie”, or “CZ” as he was affectionally known, was born May 24, 1934, in Cherokee County, KS. His parents were Ira F and Margaret Mary (Karr) Sliger. He had lived the majority of his life in Galena, KS.

He worked several years at Bunny Bread in Joplin before becoming employed at Aero Body in Joplin. He continued working as sales representative, and traveled extensively and later, head of security when the company changed its name to Able Body and retired there in 1999.








Charlie also actively volunteered to help provide security for the people of Cherokee County. He was the crew chief for the Cherokee County REACT Assn which provided storm watch, looking for lost children, and going to school functions. He was also the crew chief for the Galena Police Auxiliary, and worked closely with the Cherokee County Sheriff Dept, and civil defense. For a little over one year, he worked as a police officer for the City of Baxter Springs, KS. 








He was an active CB radio operator. He was a member of the Galena Masonic Lodge where he was a past master, serving in that office four different times. In his spare time, he enjoyed gardening and fishing.

Charlie was married to Barbara Ann Oxford on August 23, 1958 in Miami, OK. She passed away March 2, 2014. He was also preceded in death by his parents, and 5 siblings.

Surviving is one son, Charles “Chuck” Sliger, Joplin; one daughter Mary Ann Ingram (Don Borusheski), Galena; and one grandson, John Ingram, Galena.

Charlie was entrusted to Derfelt Funeral Home, Galena KS for cremation. A celebration of life will be held later date.
