Dee Hogan

Dee Hogan, age 76, of Joplin, passed away on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at her home.

Dee, daughter of the late Ovid and Ethel (Cartright) Winans, was born on May 19, 1946 in Amorita, Oklahoma. She grew up in Jasper Missouri and graduated from Jasper High School with the class of 1964. She was united in marriage to John “Mike” Hogan on May 17, 1973. He preceded her in death on December 28, 2008.








Dee was an avid reader and known for her arts and craft abilities and talent. She previously owned and managed Sawdust Farms, an arts and crafts wholesale business. She also owned Jesse’s Truck Stop with her late husband where she would sometimes work in the cafĂ©. 

Dee, having lived with Type 1 Diabetes since childhood, saw a lack of resources and support for local community members living with the same condition, so in 1984 she helped found the Diabetes Support Group with Freeman Hospital. She loved and adored her grandchildren and enjoyed being an active part in their lives.








Survivors include her children, Jason Hogan, and his wife, Katie, of Joplin, and Michelle Hogan-George, and her husband, Brian, of Carthage; one step-daughter, Sarah Hogan, of Joplin; grandchildren, Christopher George, Sam George, Emily Harvel, and Jett Hogan; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her parents and husband, Dee was preceded in death by one brother, Dennis Winans, and two grandchildren, Charles and Harry George.

Graveside services will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2023 10:00 AM at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin. The family will receive friends for a time of visitation on Friday, January 13th beginning at 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin. Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association in memory of Dee and may be entrusted to the mortuary.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin.
