Neva Parsons

Neva Nell (Smith) Parsons, age 85, passed away Sunday, January 8, 2023, at the Westgate Nursing Center, Joplin, MO.

She was born January 17, 1937, to late Everett Chester “Bus” and Nellie Mae Devolt Smith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by one brother, Maurice Smith; and two sons, Randall Eugene and Theodore Lynn Parsons.

Neva was a homemaker while raising her 4 children with the exception of working around the Christmas Holiday. 








After her children left home, she worked as a secretary at different times in offices. Later she and her husband Ted operated an Antique Flea Market.

She was a proud member of the Oswego 1st United Methodist Church, DAR and also Fraternal Order of West Eagles Auxiliary.

Neva spent many years researching her family Genealogical history, with excitement and enthusiasm.

You would often find Neva with a book in her hand she loved to read. She also loved playing her piano.

She also loved to travel anywhere you asked her to go.








Her quick wit and laughter was contagious especially when spending time with her family.

She is survived by her husband Teddie, Carl Junction, MO; two daughters, Cheryl Layne and husband, Mark, Webb City, MO, and Toni Parsons, Oronogo, MO; one daughter-in-law, Debra Parsons Oswego, KS; ten grandchildren, Anna Brock Carl Junction MO, Talia Stovall, Pittsburg, KS, Adam and Karen Layne, Joplin MO, Josh and Summer Belcher Webb City, MO, Ryan Belcher (Whitney Bailey), Overland Park, KS, Trisha & Mellissa Belcher-Shriver, Overland Park, KS, Olivia Parsons Joplin, MO, Luke Parsons, Monterey Beach CA, Tiffany Correll, Columbus KS and Kyle & Tabatha Correll of Fernandina Beach Fl; nine great-grandchildren, Adalyn and Laynie Brock , Jameson Layne, Buddy, Ally, Brady Belcher and Cal, Maris, Mays Stovall.

Memorial services will be held 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2023, at the Oswego 1st United Methodist. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. until service time. Burial will follow in the Sherman City Cemetery.




Memorial services are under the direction of the Derfelt Funeral Home of Oswego, KS.
