(From Bath-Naylor Funeral Home)Donna Marie Shoemaker passed peacefully surrounded by family on October 15, 2023, after a short battle with cancer.
She was born to Harve and Wanda Fuqua, on January 3, 1953, in Webb City, MO. She grew up in Pittsburg, Kansas and attended Pittsburg schools.
She married George Shoemaker on August 20, 1971, in Girard, Kansas.
Donna was a Jaycee member for several years and made lifelong friendships. She also enjoyed bowling and played on a local team for a little while. She enjoyed gardening and bird watching and just spending time outdoors. Her biggest passion was taking care of children. She had an in-home daycare for over 40 years.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
She is survived by her husband, George, daughter, Amy, and brother Jerry Fuqua (Reta) all of Pittsburg as well as one niece, Michelle Marler (Matt) of Branson Missouri. She is also survived by several beloved family and friends, and the over 150 children that have come in and out of the family daycare.
Graveside services will be held at Rosebank Cemetery in Mulberry Kansas. They will be at 1 pm on Monday, November 13th. Friends and family are invited to gather afterwards at the Mulberry Senior Center.
In the spring, there will be a large Celebration of Life held in Donna’s honor.
An endowment fund in Donna’s name is currently being set up. More information on that will be available by the time of the service.
