(From Simpson Funeral Home)Joseph Charles Leonardi, known affectionately as Joe or Joe Wop to his friends, passed away on the 13th of March, 2025. Born on the 19th of September, 1949, in Chicago, Illinois, Joseph had a life that was full of love, laughter, and an abundance of courage.
Joseph was a man of many talents and interests. For many years, he was a cornerstone of the box manufacturing industry until his well-earned retirement in 2012. His work was more than a job; it was a testament to his dedication and hard work. But the real joy of Joseph's life was found outside of work.
An avid fisherman and a camping enthusiast, he spent many happy hours on the water, basking in the peace it brought him. His other love was cars. A self-taught mechanic, Joseph could often be found tinkering under the hood of a car, his hands covered in grease, a wide grin on his face. But the true testament to Joseph's heart was his deep love for his family. He was an engaging father, always present in his children's lives. His loving nature and witty humor were the highlights of every family gathering along with his famous storytelling.
A practicing Catholic, Joseph exemplified the virtues of his faith in his everyday life. One verse that Joseph often quoted and lived by was from the Book of Proverbs, 22:6: "Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." Joseph's faith was not just in words, but in action.
Joseph is survived by his loving daughters, Michelle Nichols and Faith (Nick) Kemper; sons, Joseph Leonardi II and Giovanni (Janea) Leonardi; grandkids, Amanda Gainuss, Joseph M. Leonardi, Antonio Leonardi, Jacquelyn DeStefano, Christiano (Madison) Leonardi, Alyssia (Isaac) McLaughlin, Vincentio Leonardi, Kylee Leonardi, Kinley Leonardi, Paulie Leonardi and Gianni Leonardi; great grandkids, Mekia Gainuss, Landon Hall, Ezekiel Gainuss, Laelyn May, Elaina McLaughlin and Beckham Leonardi; brother, Paul (Tina) Leonardi.
