Carl DeGonia

Carl S. DeGonia, age 73, of Joplin, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022 at Mercy Hospital in Joplin.

Carl, son of the late Joseph Albert and Mary Lou (Richter) DeGonia, was born on December 31, 1948 in Blackwell, MO. He moved to the Joplin area in 1965 with his family. 

He attended Parkwood High School and then soon after, he enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served his country honorably.








Carl was a talented and gifted musician, often playing and singing alongside his siblings and family. He was a devoted member of Peoples Home Mission Church. When he was playing music, Carl often enjoyed writing poetry and collecting Angels and Matchbox Cars.

Survivors include his children, John Hudson, of Australia, Carl W. DeGonia, of IA, Tammy Jessen, of NE, and Teressa Earley, of IA, his siblings, Irene Carrier and Jim Tyler, of Webb City, Linda Smith, of Carterville, Emul DeGonia, and his wife, Gail, of Reddings Mill, Larry DeGonia, and his wife, Brenda, of Joplin, Ray DeGonia, and his wife, Susie, of Joplin, and Shelly Ebbs, and her husband, David, of Joplin; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Paul David DeGonia and Jerome “Jerry” DeGonia.

Graveside services will be held on Monday, March 14, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Ozark Memorial Park Cemetery in Joplin with Emul DeGonia officiating. Memorial contributions may be of your choice to Joplin Humane Society, St. Jude Children’s Hospital, or Shriners Hospital and may be entrusted to the mortuary.

Special thanks to his care-givers from Phoenix Hospice, Jennifer Miller, and Malinda Wells. He loved them as family, and we all appreciate their wonderful care.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin.
