(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)Leta Mae (Gobble) Thomas, age 81 of Jasper, MO, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2022.
Leta was born on March 13, 1940 in Belton, TX to Preston and Lucy (Potter) Gobble. She moved around a lot in her younger years but has called the Joplin area her home for the last 17 years.
She was a secretary at Eagle Picher for 25 years, before retiring. After retirement, you could find her spending time with family, reading, gardening or socializing at the casino. She was a fan of “The Curse of Oak Island.”
Leta married Arthur Thomas in 1962 in Montrose, Colorado, and together they created a wonderful family, including their four kids. They shared many adventures together until his passing, November 22, 1985. Leta loved being a mom, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She will be remembered for her ornery personality and her ability to love you even when you were being difficult.
Leta leaves behind her kids, Carey Thomas, Marla Armstrong and fiancé Jim Ellefson, Ben Thomas and wife Teresa, Michelle Chrisman and husband Bud; siblings, Mary Childers, Susie Deborde, John Ames; grandchildren, Heather Thomas, Sara Baker, Matthew Armstrong and wife Whittney, Candice Hamlin, Steven Armstrong, Kelsey Hood and husband Ricky, Haleigh Stewart and husband Mycheal, Beau Hamlin, Jerod Thomas, Victoria Armstrong; along with 14 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
She is preceded in death by husband, Arthur Thomas; parents, Preston Gobble, Lucy Gobble; brothers, Preston Gobble, Melvin Gobble and Bob Gobble.
Private family services will be held at a later date.
