Ethelyn “Genia” Brogan, 90, passed away Friday, June 9, 2017 at her home. Genia was born August 24, 1926 in Murphysboro, Illinois to Zack McCoy and Ruth P. “Lofton” McCoy. Genia worked 25 years at the Jasper County Court House; she was affectionately known by many
as “the elevator lady”. Genia was a TOPS member and graduated with the most pounds lost in a session. She was also a member of the B.P.W. (Business Professional Women) and a member of the BYKOTA Church in Carthage.
Genia was united in marriage to Brenie Brogan on August 26, 1946 in St. Louis, Missouri; he preceded her in death August 27, 1994.
Genia is survived two sons: Jimmy Brogan of Carthage and Michael Brogan of Iowa; three daughters: Barbara Clark of Sarcoxie, Ruth Ann Myers of Reeds and Trish Phenis of Joplin. Genia is also survived by 25 grandchildren, 46 great grandchildren and 12 great-great grandchildren.
Genia was preceded in death by two sons: Johnny Brogan and Charlie Brogan.
Memorial services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, June 18, 2017 at BYKOTA Church. At Genia’s request, a potluck dinner will follow.
