Leon Kunkler

Leon Gale Kunkler, age 72, Joplin, passed away on Monday, August 1, 2022 at Medical Lodge in Fort Scott, Kansas.

Leon was born September 2, 1949 in Lamar, Missouri, son of Russell Ray Kunkler of Joplin, and the late Ila Jean (Jones) Kunkler.

He grew up in Iola, Kansas before moving to Joplin where he completed high school graduating from Joplin High School. He served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. 








He returned to work as a Dental Technician in Wichita, Kansas, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Austin Texas, back to Wichita before coming to Joplin where he began his company manufacturing dental crowns, bridges, partials, and dentures. He then moved with his wife to Grove, Oklahoma where he worked for Dr. Dana Oaks and later Dr. Birch Blackstock before retiring.

In addition to his mother, Leon was preceded in death by a son, Patrick Blaine Russell Kunkler; and two brothers, Raymond and Steve Kunkler.






 

Survivors include his wife Charlene (Russell) Kunkler of Joplin; son, Lindell Robert Kunkler, daughter, Damaris Marie Kunkler, and Slade Damon Carver Kunkler; grandchildren, Zachary, Shaley, Logan, Arion, Elysia, Sloan, and Brittany; his father, Rusty Kunkler; sister, Judy Sullivan; and many other extended family and friends.

A memorial visitation held on Saturday, August 6, 2022 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel. Burial of his ashes will be in Lamar, Missouri with his mother at a later date.

Cremation arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
