(From Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary) Julia “Julie” M. Sherman, age 98 of Joplin, Missouri, made her entrance into heaven on Wednesday, November 1, 2023 after a well-lived journey here on earth. Julie was born October 18, 1925 in Joplin to the late George W. and Rosa Lee (Riley) Ackerson.
Julie graduated from Joplin High School and later worked as a bookkeeper for Firestone in Joplin, eventually getting transferred to Kansas City. Later, she was proud to become the office manager of Pres. Truman’s personal doctor in Independence, Missouri.
Eventually, Julie retired from Research Hospital in Kansas City before coming back to Joplin. Julie was a long-time member of McKinley Avenue Baptist Church of Joplin before transferring to Harmony Heights Baptist Church where she has been active for many years.
Surviving Julie are a great nephew, George Campbell; great nieces, Tammy Tomlison and Kim Long; long-time close friends, Verl and Jeanie Leonard of Joplin and a host of friends at church and Wildwood Senior Independent Living.
Other than her parents and siblings, Julie is preceded in death by her husband D. Wayne Sherman, passing in May of 2019.

Graveside services are planned for Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Park Cemetery in Joplin. Pastor and great friend, Jarel Burnside will be officiating the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the “Ladies on Mission” in care of Harmony Heights Baptist Church, who are actively involved with many community needs including care and comfort of the elderly.
Services are under the direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
