(From Fohn Funeral Home)Louise Fay Slack-Hendrix, age 85, of Washburn, Missouri passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2023, at the home of her granddaughter in Pea Ridge, Arkansas.
She was born July 15, 1938, in Deuel County, Nebraska, the daughter of Alfred and Nellie (Wheeler) Walz. She grew up in the Sandhills of Arthur County, Nebraska.
Louise attended rural elementary schools in Arthur County and graduated from Arthur County High School, later attending Chadron State College in Chadron, Nebraska where she attained an associate degree in elementary education. She went on to teach in rural, one room classrooms in Nebraska.
On January 28, 1960, in Las Vegas, Nevada she was united in marriage to Everett “Sandy” Slack Jr., who preceded her in death on April 9, 1995. They moved to Los Angeles County, California and had their three sons. In 1971 they moved to Seligman, Missouri and went on to build several businesses, raise horses, cattle, and enjoy country life.
On April 2, 2009, in Miami, Oklahoma she was united in marriage to Johnie Hendrix, who preceded her in death on September 15, 2023. Also preceding her in death were her parents; one son, Royce Slack and one brother, Marv Walz.
Surviving are two sons, Preston Scott (Sherry) Slack of Seligman, Missouri, and Shawn Slack (Dorothy Fuller) of Garfield, Arkansas; one daughter, Cheryl Laughlin of Pineville, Missouri; one brother, Jerry Walz of Cody, Nebraska; one sister-in-law, Theo Walz of Arthur, Nebraska; five grandchildren, Brandy (Nathan) Key, Brian Slack, Dustin Slack, Makaylah (Kelly) Thompson, Royce Slack; five great-grandchildren, Hailey, Sky, Zackery, Malachi, Scarlett; step-children, Wayne (Jackie) Hendrix, Bobbi Scucchi, Gina (Kerry) Thompson, Keith (Missy) Hendrix, and Brian (Leslie) Hendrix; 13 step-grandchildren, Johnie, Josh, Jessica, Josy, Rachael, Jamie, Jay, Jazmine, Haley, Mason, Dusty, Bryson and Cooper and 13 step great-grandchildren.
Louise enjoyed baking, gardening, tending to her flowers, sewing, and crocheting. She loved to take care of other people but most of all she loved her family and spending time with them. Louise was a member of Prairie Hill Baptist Church.
Services will be held at 10:00 A.M. Friday, November 10, 2023 at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville. Brother Jerry Williams and Pastor Johnie Wayne Hendrix will conduct the services. Burial will be at King Cemetery in Seligman, Missouri.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M. Thursday at Fohn Funeral Home in Cassville.
Contributions may be made to Circle of Life Hospice or King Cemetery in memory of Louise.
