(From Knell Mortuary)Claude Dale Layten, age 87, passed away on April 3, 2026, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 87. He was born on September 25, 1938, in Nevada, Missouri.
Claude spent a meaningful part of his working life at Leggett and Platt, where he was respected for his dedication and strong work ethic. He approached his responsibilities with quiet dependability and took pride in doing his work well. His efforts were recognized over the years, and he was honored with an award for his work, a reflection of the care and commitment he brought to everything he did.
Outside of work, Claude enjoyed a life filled with simple pleasures and lasting friendships. He attended New Living Faith and Fire Church of Galena, Kansas, where he found fellowship and encouragement. He also enjoyed going to senior dances in the area, where he shared music, laughter, and companionship. Fishing and camping were among his favorite pastimes, and he especially appreciated the peace and enjoyment found outdoors. Claude also spent time overseeing several campgrounds, a role that suited his dependable nature and gave him the opportunity to contribute in a meaningful way.
He is survived by his caregiver and best friend, Daniele Clark of Galena, Kansas, and by his son, Tim Layton of Springfield, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his son, Tom Layton, as well as several brothers and sisters who had also passed before him.
Per Claude’s wishes there was cremation and private services.
