Mary Hill

Mary Katherine McCann Hill went home to be with the Lord on November 21, 2024 at St. Luke’s Nursing Center with her family by her side. She was born on February 29, 1956 to Max and Louise McCann. Mary loved being a leap year baby and cherished an article written in the Carthage Press for her first birthday.

Mary attended schools in Carthage, MO and was a member of the class of 1974.








After graduating she went to MSSC but decided that nursing was her calling. She then attended Drury University and Burge School of nursing where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Mary enjoyed working in a hospital setting and then went on to do visiting nursing.

Mary married the love of her life Jack E. Hill on June 24, 1978 in Carthage, MO.

Mary and Jack made their home in the St. Louis area before Jack was transferred to Huntsville, AL. They were blessed with three daughters that kept them very busy.

Mary enjoyed traveling, hiking, and even went white water rafting on the Snake River. Mary and her daughters also went on a memorable mission trip to Mexico. She was an aspiring artist in a variety of art mediums. Mary loved to sketch, paint and also make sculptures. We are grateful to have a number of her pieces in all of our homes.

Preceeding her in death was her husband Jack, her parents Max and Louise McCann, her daughter Coreen Upton, her son-in-law Brandon Stewart, and brother-in-law John Butrick Jr.

She is survived by her daughters Christine Madison (Shane), Jennifer Hill(Candy). Her grandchildren, James Peyton Stewart, Mary Kate Stewart, Karmen Madison, Hannah Upton, CJ Upton, and Ellie Hill. One great grandchild, Paisley Upton.

 

She is also survived by her three siblings, Kathleen Bruffett(Charlie), Max McCann, Elizabeth Butrick and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her long-time friend Bruce Boyes.

A graveside service will be held December 6, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. in Park Cemetery, Carthage, MO. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to Parkinson’s Research.

Tom Logan

Thomas Richard Logan, affectionately known as Tom or Uncle Tom, age 62 of Joplin, Missouri, passed away at 10:09 a.m. on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at Freeman Hospital in Joplin, Missouri. He was born November 27, 1961, in St. Louis, Missouri the son of Richard Edward and Mary Martha ‘Marty’ (Morgan) Logan.

Tom was a 1980 graduate of Pascagoula High School in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He then followed his father and served his country in the United States Marine Corps. 

Tom was a long-time employee of the Jackson County Mississippi Highway Department and most recently was a dump truck driver for Asbell Companies in Carl Junction, Missouri. Tom took great pride in driving his truck and loved the independence it gave him.

Tom was a talented artist, often sharing his artwork with friends and family and even helping illustrate a niece’s writing project. Tom was a life-long Oklahoma Sooner football fan and in the last several years developed a love for the Alabama Crimson Tide as well. Tom attended Racine Christian Church and was a proud member of the Choctaw Nation.

Tom never knew a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back. He frequented the Waffle House and the Iron Skillet restaurants to hang out and visit with people. He always was ready with a sarcastic remark or corny joke.

Tom loved his friends and family. He is survived by his two sisters, Beth Herring, New Orleans, Louisiana and Laura (Trent) Walker, Carthage, Missouri; two stepdaughters, Kim Dodson, Lucedale, Mississippi and Christy Masseur, Evansville, Indiana; six nieces, one nephew, and numerous friends and coworkers.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Dr. Lowell and Isabella Morgan and Walter and Evelyn Logan; and niece Cassi Walker.

Per his wishes Thomas has been cremated. A celebration of his life for family, friends and co-workers will be held December 15 from 3 – 5 P.M. at Zinc Coffee in Joplin, Missouri. Arrangements are under the direction of Ozark Memorial Park of Joplin, MO.

Don Bryant

Beloved Husband, Father, Grandfather, Servant of the Lord

November 12, 1932-November 27, 2024

Don was born on November 12, 1932 to Thomas and Florence Bryant. He was one of eight siblings and six have preceded him in death.

Don went home to be with the Lord peacefully on November 27, 2024. He was 92 years old and a lifelong resident of Joplin, Missouri. He was an army veteran and was stationed at Fort Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska (back before it was granted statehood).

He married his lifelong sweetheart Phyllis ‘JoAnn’ Newdigger on July 10, 1953. They celebrated 71 years together in 2024, and she survives him. 

Additional survivors include his son Darrel Bryant of Jasper, Missouri; and his daughter Teresa Dailey (Brian) of Nokomis, Florida; two granddaughters, Caitlin Strapp (Navarre) of Cameron, Missouri; Kayla Mahurin (Daniel) of Overland Park, Kansas; and two new great grandsons in 2024, Bennett Mahurin and Stetson Strapp. He is also survived by his youngest sister, Sunny Tyndall who lives in Oregon.

He worked in several construction trades and owned his own commercial insulation company for a few years before he retired at 62.

Throughout his life, he enjoyed camping, fishing, riding motorcycles, stock car racing, playing music, tinkering with numerous projects in his garage workshop, reading and studying his Bible, as well as spending time with his beloved wife JoAnn.

He was a Bible-believing follower of Christ and attended Central Assembly of God where he also served as a bus ministry driver, and a deacon.

It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone because part of our hearts went with you the day God took you home. We know you are in heaven and we must now look forward to the day when we will see you again!

Jessie Haynes

Jessie JoDean Haynes, age 60, a resident of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Thursday, November 28, 2024, at Mercy Hospital in Joplin. She was born January 3, 1964, in Wichita, Kansas, the daughter of Charlie George Fishback and Katie Mae McPherson Fishback. 

After obtaining her GED, Jessie enrolled in the cosmetology program at Ft. Scott Community College and worked for a time as a beautician. Jessie had a love of art and drawing. She took her artistic abilities and obtained a degree in graphic design from the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. 

For over ten years, Jessie has been employed by Rescare where she provided home health services to clients primarily in the Pittsburg, Kansas area. She will be remembered for her keen sense of humor. She was a devoted grandmother who dearly adored her grandbabies.

Survivors include her children, Tonya Haynes (Paul) of Ft. Scott, Kansas and Charles Haynes (Brittany) of Bronson, Kansas and thirteen grandchildren, Kisa, Donald, Miguel, Johnathan, Mylee, Josue, Cesar, Liam, Khiana, Iesha, Dezmond, Octavius and Elijah. Also surviving are her longtime companion, Charles “Chuck” Martinez of Joplin, two brothers, Ron and Sam and four sisters, Arma, Sandra, Brenda and Isabelle. 

Jessie was preceded in death by her parents, a daughter, Tara, two brothers, Henry and John and two sisters, Idessa and Gwen.

A celebration of Jessie’s life will be held at 3:00 P.M. Thursday, December 5th at the Cheney Witt Chapel, 201 S. Main St. Ft. Scott, Kansas. Words of remembrance may be submitted to the online guestbook at cheneywitt.com.

Michael Stafford

Michael Lee Stafford, 58, of Golden City, Missouri, passed away on Sunday, December 1, 2024. Michael was born on June 19, 1966, to Richard Lee Stafford Sr. and Dorothy Louise Myers in Kansas City, Missouri. He graduated from Parkwood High School in 1984 where he was a part of the ROTC. Michael served his country in the Army then later he became an over the road truck driver. He was a HAM Radio operator enthusiast.

Michael is survived by his mom, Louise Cross of Carthage, Missouri; stepmom, Gloria Stafford of Golden City; two brothers, Richard Lee Stafford Jr. of Mexia, Texas, and Eric Mathews of Anderson, Indiana; and two sisters, Sandra Gail Stafford of Carthage, and Barbara Woods of Sherwood, Arkansas; and one granddaughter, Reva Myers.

There will be a memorial service for Michael at 2:00 PM on Friday, December 6, 2024, at Ulmer Funeral Home in Carthage Missouri.

Linda Barnard

Linda Barnard, 82, of Diamond, Missouri, passed into eternal rest on November 29, 2024, at Medicalodges of Neosho, Missouri, after an illness.

Linda was born September 7, 1942, in Joplin, MO, to Edgar Keith and Violet Jenkins. She and her family moved to Wyandotte, Oklahoma, in 1972. After Joe passed, Linda moved to Diamond, Missouri. She worked as a Cook at the Wyandotte School and then as a Janitor and Laborer at Level Ride Mfg. in Diamond. She was a member of Friends Church of Wyandotte until moving to Diamond.

Linda Keith married Joe Barnard on October 8, 1957, in Miami, Oklahoma.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Edgar and Violet; husband, Joe; daughter, Lawanna France; son-in-law, Chuck France, and daughter-in-law, LaQuita Barnard

Survivors include her daughter, Brenda DeWeese and husband, Kevin DeWeese of Diamond, Missouri; son, Bill Barnard and wife, Sherrie Barnard of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; son, Travis Barnard of Wyandotte, Oklahoma; son, Todd Barnard and wife, Rebecca Barnard also of Wyandotte Oklahoma and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Linda enjoyed quilting, crocheting, and watching her favorite shows while shopping on Amazon. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

She will be greatly missed by everyone that knew her.

There will be a family celebration of Linda's life at a later date.

Helen Adams

Helen L. Adams, passed away November 29, 2024 at Joplin Health and Rehab after a long illness.

Helen was born August 10, 1941 to the late George E. Davee & Helen M. (Gross) Davee in Webb City, MO. She was the last of her family.

Helen went to Webb City Schools where she was part of the High School Band and Orchestra.

On June 5, 1989 she married Harold G. Adams and he preceded her in death on February 5, 1993. Helen was a Baptized Lutheron. She loved animals and birds. She formerly worked at the former Oak Hill Hospital and Freeman East for 16 years in the dietary department. Her nickname was "Riggs".

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Humane Society or the Audubon Society.

The body has been taken for cremation under the personal direction of Campbell-Biddlecome Funeral Home, Seneca, MO.

Private services will be held at a later date.
