Robert R. Groff, of Webb City, passed away Monday at the age of 93.
Mr. Groff was born on Sept. 3, 1926, in Duenweg to Ollie Mae “Madie” Groff. He served in the U.S. Army in Alaska as a radio operator. When he returned home, he went to work for Atlas Powder Explosives and stayed there until he retired 43 years later.
For many years, he spent several weeks driving across the country, eventually visiting all 50 states. He was an avid Webb City Cardinals football fan. He enjoyed fishing, especially the 40-plus trips he made to Canada with friends.
Bob married Dorothy “Squab” Roberts, of Neosho, in 1949. She preceded him in death in 1992.
He is survived by three daughters, Vicki Groff, Webb City, Suzanne Groff, Mt. Vernon, and Rochelle DeLucia and her husband Greg, Oronogo; three granddaughters, Hollie DeBerry, Joplin, Bobbie Martin and her husband Michael, Mt. Vernon, and Jasmine Kell and her husband Koby, Valdosta, Ga.; three great-grandchildren, Alexa, Jaxon and Maddox; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by a brother, Glenn; and two sisters, Helen Mahurin and Patty Forsythe.
A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday at Hedge-Lewis-Goodwin Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to the Webb City High School Booster Club.
