Carolyn Jean Mahurin of Baxter Springs, KS passed from this life Wednesday, October 4, 2023 at her home. She was 61.

Carolyn was born February 9, 1962 in Joplin, MO to James and Lenora (Watson) Poteet. She had lived in the Galena, Picher and Baxter Springs, KS area all her life. She attended Picher – Cardin Schools in Picher, OK. She worked as for Autumn Place in Baxter Springs, KS, area nursing homes and King Louie in Baxter Springs, KS. Carolyn was a member of Highway Tabernacle in Quapaw, OK.







She was preceded in death by her parents.

Carolyn is survived by her husband Dennis Johnston of the home, 2 sons, Donnie Mahurin and his wife Delann of Eucha, OK and Justin Mahurin and his wife Alison of Claremore, OK, 1 daughter Cassandra Whited and her husband John of Eucha, OK, 2 sisters, Judy Hartman of Joplin, MO and Brenda Fry of Baxter Springs, KS and 6 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 9, 2023 at Highway Tabernacle in Quapaw, OK. Rev. Ray Clonts will officiate. Interment will be in Greenlawn Cemetery, southwest of Columbus, KS. 

Larry Hartman, Johnathan Hartman, Ryan Nowlin, Coltin Sappington, Junior Grube, Josh Holden will serve as pallbearers. Jesse Mahurin and Carsson Mahurin will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 p.m. Sunday at Paul Thomas Funeral Home Chapel in Miami, OK.
