(From Carson-Wall Funeral Home)Marjorie F. Giefer, 97, of rural Girard, passed away at 8:45 a.m., Sunday, October 15, 2023 at Ascension Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.
She was born July 29, 1926 at Freeport, Kansas to Clyde and Setta (Hancock) Bond. The family moved to St. Paul, Kansas where she grew up and attended St. Paul schools graduating from St. Paul High School in 1944. Following her college studies in Pittsburg, Kansas she taught grade school in South Mound, Kansas for a year.
She and Fred Giefer were married on August 10, 1946 at the St. Joseph Catholic Church Rectory in South Mound. He survives of the home following 77 years of marriage.
Marjorie and Fred made their home at South Mound for several years before moving to the Greenbush, Kansas area. They farmed for many years together raising different kinds of livestock and operating a dairy farm. They also had a large garden and orchard growing different kinds of fruits and vegetables. They retired in the 1980’s.
Marjorie enjoyed an active and busy life. She enjoyed bowling, square dancing with Fred, hosting card parties, and traveling with her family to various places. She and Fred would go on cruises and take frequent trips to Branson, MO. She enjoyed her farm life, but most of all, she loved her family. She enjoyed hosting and cooking family dinners on birthdays and holidays and was a great cook. Her family came first, and she always cherished the time spent with them.
Marjorie was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard and was in the Daughters of Isabella and the Altar Society. She was also active in the Red Hat Ladies Society and the Garden Club.
In addition to her husband, Fred, Marjorie is survived by five children, Danny Giefer, and his wife, Betty of Emporia, David Giefer of Girard, Kenneth Giefer, and his wife, Cheryl of Girard, Nancy Roark, and her husband, Richard of Joplin, and Robert Giefer, and his wife, Sharon of Tulsa, OK; 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, October 20, 2023 at St. Michael’s Catholic Church in Girard with Father Daniel Vacca officiating. Burial will follow in the St. Aloysius Cemetery at Greenbush. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:30 p.m., Thursday at the Smith-Carson-Wall Funeral Home in Girard. The family will receive friends following the Rosary. Memorials are
