Norma Messer

Norma G. Messer, age 64, passed away peacefully on October 4th, 2023, in Carl Junction, MO, leaving a legacy of love, generosity, creativity, and selfless devotion. On December 1, 1958, Norma was born to the late Norman and Mable (Cook) Messer, in Joplin, MO. She was a lifelong resident of the area and a proud alumna of Carl Junction High School.

Norma led a life dedicated to her family and her work. She found her calling in the food service industry where she showcased her dedication to others and to hard work. She was the former owner and operator of Ardes Villa in Redings Mill, near Joplin, and then later joined the team at Granny Shaffer’s Restaurant, also in Joplin.








At home, Norma was an artist, crafting beautiful pieces of jewelry that showcased her creativity and attention to detail. She was an avid fisher, often making sure everyone’s fish were cleaned and ready for cooking. Norma was best known for her generous spirit and selfless heart. 

She was the kind of person who would give you the shirt off her back and still ask if you needed anything else. She had an innate ability to make people feel cared for and valued, touching lives in ways that left lasting imprints.








Survivors include her children, Elizabeth Khaleghi and her fiancé, Jonny Wester, of Jacksonville, AR, and Andrew Khaleghi of Joplin; her beloved granddaughter, Safiya Wester; her siblings, Jeannie Messer and Mark Messer, both of Carl Junction, and Terry Blank of Lago Vista, TX; and several nieces, nephews, and extended family members. In addition to her parents, Norma was preceded in death by her daughter, Angela Khaleghi.

Private family services will be held at a later date.

Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin.
