Shirley Payton

(From Clark Funeral Home)

Shirley Ann Payton, aged 86, of Neosho, Missouri, peacefully passed away on October 5, 2023. She was born on January 4, 1937, to her parents, Henry Homuth and Millie Cowdrey. Shirley's journey through life was rooted in her beloved hometown. She proudly graduated from Neosho High School in 1955 and, in the years that followed, dedicated herself to being a devoted homemaker.

On April 21, 1957, she was united in marriage to Bobby "Bob" Gene Payton, and together they shared a loving partnership until his passing on July 6, 2013. Shirley was a member of the Widow to Widow group, where she found comfort and support among friends who shared her journey. She was a woman of many talents and passions.

Shirley sold vegetables out of her truck, providing fresh produce to her community. However, her true happiness was found in the kitchen. She was at her best when she was cooking and baking. Her family fondly remembers her for the special birthday cakes she lovingly prepared, a treat they all eagerly anticipated.

Shirley Ann Payton is survived by her two daughters, Teresa Payton and Pam Payton, both of Neosho, Missouri. Her love extended to her sisters, Ruthie Ragland and Marjorie Harris, both of Goodman, Missouri, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cherished friends.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, a sister, Katherine Payton, and her loyal companion, her pet assistant chef Sophie. Shirley's memory will forever be treasured by her family and friends. She will be remembered for her warm heart, culinary skills, and the love she shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
