Argie Mathes

(From Parker Mortuary)

Argie Juanita Mathes, 76 years old, went to her heavenly home July 9, 2024 after a sudden illness at Mercy Hospital.

Argie was born February 20, 1948, to Stony and Mary Patterson, their fifth child, in Neosho, Mo. at home.

Argie lived in the Joplin area the majority of her life. She graduated Neosho High School in 1966 and held many waitress jobs until Industrial Linens then St. John’s Hospital where she started at Central Sterile and transferred to Pharmacy as a certified Pharmacy Tech 2 until she retired in 2009 and opened Argie’s Stitches, her “dream job.”

She loved sewing and watching the expressions of her family and customers when they received her work. Argie loved the number 5 from being the 5th child with Alvin, Kathy, Eddie, and George ahead of her and Jerry, Laura, Linda, and June to follow.

Surviving is her husband Johnny Mathes, of the home; daughter, Argie DeAnn Kellogg, husband Tim, of Riverton, and Stephanie Atkin; Stephen Mathes, Johnny Mathes Jr., wife Jennifer, Michael Mathes, her beloved bonus children; grandchildren, Candace Chesnut (Adam) and their children, Andee, Ellee, and Toree; Zane Kellogg (Erin) and their children, Hayden, Addison, and Logan; Lewis Kellogg (Shala) and their children, Leni, Lane, Letty, and Lila. Also survived by Christopher, Madison, Janaki, Lucas, and Julia.

Parents, Alvin, Kathy, George, and Laura, precede her in death.

Johnny was the love of my mom’s life and they shared almost 39 years of marriage, enjoying family vacations, fishing, and camping. She loved Jesus and fellowshipping. She prayed for all and blessed so many with her smile, laughter, and sewing talents. She left the best gift of knowing she was saved by her Jesus. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her.

A funeral service is planned on Friday, July 12th, 2024 at 2:30 p.m. at Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary in Joplin, MO. The family invites friends for a time of visitation prior to the service beginning at 1:00 p.m. Burial to follow at Osborne Cemetery in Joplin, MO.

Arrangements are under the direct care of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, MO.
