(From Nichols Funeral Home)Wynona Rae Karriman, affectionately known as Noni, passed away on July 23, 2024, in Joplin, Missouri, at the age of 85. Born on May 23, 1939, in Gary, Indiana, she was the daughter of the late Henry and Bessie Byrd.
Noni dedicated her life to the field of education, earning a Master's degree in Special Education from the University of Las Vegas. She spent many years as a special education teacher in Las Vegas, NV, and later at White Oak School, from where she retired. Known for her outgoing, friendly, and compassionate nature, Noni was deeply committed to volunteering and making a difference in her community.
She was a devout member of Grace Harbor Church, where she was actively involved in various church activities. Noni also enjoyed word puzzles and spending quality time with her family, which was one of her greatest joys.
Noni is survived by her loving husband, Joseph Karriman; her children, John Karriman of Joplin, MO, Connie Case (Scott) of Sugar Hill, GA, Jeff Karriman (Kristi) of Grove, OK, and Christie McCormick; along with 34 cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her brothers Ronald and Rex Byrd, and step-siblings Leonard and Barbara Konjak.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Sunday, July 28, and a funeral service at 11 AM on Monday, July 29, 2024, both at Nichols-Stephens Funeral Service.
