Beverly DeMasters

(From Mason-Woodard Mortuary)

Beverly A. DeMasters, age 88, of Joplin, Missouri, passed away Saturday, July 13, 2024, at her home. Beverly “Bev” was born January 7, 1936, in Joplin, Missouri, the only child of Perry “Buzz” Tener and Virginia (Hensley) Tener.

Bev met her husband, Murel DeMasters, on a double date. However, it turned out they were with opposite partners. After changing partners, they were married 71 years and had two daughters, Brenda and Dana. Bev was devoted to her family and delighted in her grandchildren.

Affectionately known as “Annie” by her extended family, Bev was happiest when helping them. An avid reader and researcher, she was a family resource for information, guidance, and support.

Bev had various jobs throughout her life. For over 25 years she was a Job Service Counselor for the State of Missouri until her retirement in 2001. As a working mom, she was an excellent cook, seamstress, and homework helper; and found time to complete two years of college while rearing teenage daughters.

Bev and Murel passed away together at their home. Bev is preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by two daughters: Brenda Phipps (Dale) of Joplin, Missouri, and Dana DeMasters of Kansas City, Missouri; two grandchildren: Jennifer Ziegler (Jay) and Kristin Phipps; and two great-grandchildren: Isabella Ziegler and Lily Ziegler.

The family will receive friends at a memorial visitation from 4:00-6:00pm, July 26, 2024, at Mason-Woodard Mortuary and Crematory.
