George Williams

George Leroy Williams, 93, of Pittsburg, passed away at 6:20 a.m. Saturday, June 29, 2024 at Via Christi Village.

He was born on December 28, 1930 in Carterville, Missouri to Katie Snyder. He grew up and attended school in Webb City, Missouri.

On December 9, 1951, he was united in marriage to Mary Alberta Perry at Eureka Springs, Arkansas. She preceded him in death on August 11, 2022.








Mr. Williams served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was a Bronze Star recipient and the Vietnam War where he was a Purple Heart Recipient. He also served as a Drill Sergeant while serving. Mr. Williams was the first veteran in Kansas to receive a grant from the Veterans Administration home builders for a paraplegic.

Membership was held in the First Church of the Nazarene; DAV; and VFW.

Survivors include two daughters, Janet Maloney of Olathe, Kansas, and Donna Williams (Tom Draus) of Kansas City, Missouri; three grandchildren, Sean Maloney (Jenna), Laura Maloney (Patrick Westerhaus) and Shannon Maloney; and two great-grandchildren, Henry Maloney and Emma Maloney.








He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters, Hazel, Dorothy, and Viola and two brothers, Marion and Charlie.

A visitation will be held from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Friday (July 5th) at Brenner Mortuary. Graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. Friday (July 5th) at the Garden of Memories Cemetery with Pastor Jim Sukraw officiating. Burial will follow the service in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, with graveside military rites. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to PittNaz church.
