Wiley Henson

Mr. Wiley Junior Henson, age 94, of Reeds, Missouri, passed away Tuesday, September 3, 2019, at Mercy Hospital in Carthage.

Wiley was born May 12, 1925, in Aurora, Missouri, to Wiley and Jennie Henson.

He worked as a travel salesman in various industries and retired from Big Surf in Osage Beach. Wiley served his country faithfully as a Sergeant in the Army during WWII. He very much enjoyed reminiscing on his days of service. Wiley was also honored as a veteran when he was chosen to participate in the nationally recognized Honor Flight, where he visited Washington, D.C. to see the memorials of his fallen brothers. Wiley also enjoyed camping while traveling and he accomplished a visit to almost every state. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He especially loved his Shih Tzu, Buddy Lee. Wiley was a dedicated member of Bethany Baptist Church in Carthage.

On May 29, 1943, Wiley was united in marriage to Leona Mae Spires and together they shared 72 years of marriage before her passing on June 15, 2015.








Wiley was also preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Joyce Halteman; his son, Larry Henson; two brothers, Clifford Sebiers and Bill Henson; and a sister, Burtie Spillers.

Survivors include his sister, Charlett Smith and husband, Frank, of Reeds; his adopted daughter, Rebecca Dockins; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mary Henson; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of extended family and friends.
Memorial services with military honors for Wiley will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at Bethany Baptist Church with Brother Kenji Harrington officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Baptist Church in his memory.
Arrangements are under the personal care and direction of Thornhill-Dillon Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
