Mr. Gary L. Poynor, 72, a longtime resident of Noel Missouri and local businessman, departed this life on Tuesday, January 5, 2016, at his residence.
Gary entered this life on May 15, 1943, in Noel, Missouri, born to the union of the late Jack and Donna Lee (Hill) Poynor. He was a lifelong resident of Noel, Missouri and after graduating from Noel High School he served his country faithfully and was a veteran at the US Army. After his service he returned to Noel and began his lifelong endeavor of building and creating business in Noel. In 1978 he started Jose O’Malley”s restaurant in Noel. His legacy will live on as he founded River Ranch Resort in 1980. A business that has grown and become a premier resort for SW Missouri.
Gary was very involved and supported his community. He was on the board of the Noel Housing Authority and was a founding member of the Missouri Canoe & Floaters Association. He was an avid car enthusiast and a collector of Elvis memorabilia; he was always in the middle of an on going project.
Gary is survived by his son, John Poynor and wife, Casey, of Noel, Missouri; three grandchildren, Emma, Lillia and Jack Poynor; two siblings Mike Poynor and Pam Blecha both of Grove, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews; as well as a host of other family and friends. Gary was a proud father and papa and will be greatly missed by all who loved him.
Memorial services are 1:00 p.m. Saturday, January 16, 2016 at River Ranch Resort in Noel, Missouri, with Pastor Marilyn O’Brien officiating. Memorials are being directed to the McDonald County Angel Tree Project and contributions may be left at the funeral home.
