H. David Hailey, 90, passed away at Freeman Hospital in Joplin on January 15, 2016.
David was born to Howard and Cecile Hailey in Harlan, Iowa on July 8, 1925. He spent most of his childhood years in Neosho.
In 1944, he enlisted in the United States Navy, serving in the Pacific Theater on the USS Hancock (CV-19), an aircraft carrier.
David married Jean Cooper on June 8, 1947. The wedding took place in Joplin, where the couple lived for almost their entire married life.
For more than 35 years, David was employed by Hiland Dairy Foods Company. Remarkably, he was still working as a consultant for Hiland at the time of his death. He was a longtime member of South Joplin Christian Church and Fellowship Lodge #345, A.F. & A.M.
David is survived by his devoted wife of 68 years, Jean; their son, Gary Hailey, Rockville, Maryland; their daughter, Terri Hailey, South Jordan, Utah; their grandchildren, Nicholas Hailey, Washington, D.C., Caroline Cole, Frederick, Maryland, Sarah Yeomans, Arlington, Virginia, Peter Hailey, Rockville, Maryland; his sister, Mary Hailey, Carl Junction; and several nieces and nephews.
Services are planned for Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at South Joplin Christian Church. Entombment will follow at Ozark Memorial Park Mausoleum. Masonic services are planned for Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. with a visitation to follow at Parker Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that contributions be made in David's memory to South Joplin Christian Church.
Arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary.
