Maxine Dillon, age 88, of Joplin, passed away on Sunday January 17, 2016, at Spring River Christian Village, following an illness.
Maxine was born on October 8, 1927 in Carterville, Mo., the daughter of the late Nathan and Fannie (Williams) Miller. She has been a lifetime area resident. Maxine spent her days loving and caring for her family as a homemaker. She was a very active member of the Bethel Baptist Church for 55 years.
Maxine married Jewell Dillon on August 22, 1951, he preceded her in death on January 3, 1989. She was also preceded by a daughter, Joni Dillon Spears; 2 brothers, Harvey Miller and Clarence ‘Hip’ Miller; 4 sisters, Opal Williams, Dorothy Davis, Pansy Miller and Francis Reitz. Survivors include her daughter, Janet Turley and her husband David, Broken Arrow, Ok.; 3 grandchildren, Melinda Bridges and husband Bert of Springfield, Mo., Stana Gaw of Springfield, Mark Turley of Amsterdam, NL.; 6 great-grandchildren, Logan Bridges and wife Emily, Jordan Bridges and wife Alexis, Blake Bridges, Parker Bridges, Reagan Bridges and Harrison Bridges; and 2 great-great-grandchildren, Lucy and Francis Bridges. Also by lifetime friends, Mary Helen Ewing and Ila Mae Purcell, both of Joplin; and numerous longtime friends from Bethel Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, January 22, 2016 at the Mason-Woodard Chapel, Rev. John Newberry, will officiate. Burial will be in Osborne Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home during a time of visitation beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday until the start of the service.
