Mary Lee Johnson, age 85, lifelong resident of Joplin, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, January 20, 2016 at National Health Care in Joplin.
Mary was born August 7, 1930 to the late, Grant W. Bailey and Athra I. Provance Bailey in an area formerly known as "East Town" in Joplin. She worked for Parker Mortuary selling pre-needs and then became a realtor, earning the "Million Dollar Producer" title for Charles Burt Realty which she retired from after 17 years of service.
Mary loved her family and grandkids. She enjoyed hearing the stories and jokes being shared around the table and had a few of her own. Mary formerly attended Calvary Baptist Church and was currently a member of Greenwood Baptist Church, south of Joplin.
On June 30, 1961, Mary married Thomas E. Johnson in Joplin. After being married for over 50 years, Tom survives of their home in Webb City.
Additional survivors include a daughter, Melody Newburn and her husband, Bill of McKinney, Texas; sons, Jack Johnson and wife, Donna of Webb City and Dan Johnson of Joplin; six grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Bailey and wife, Caroline of Purcell; plus numerous cousins and extended family.
Mary is preceded in death by a sister, Norma Goswick and three brothers, Bud, Bob and Dave Bailey.
Services for Mary will be Friday, January 22 at 10:00 a.m. at Parker Mortuary. Family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 7-8:00 p.m. at the mortuary.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to either CMA "Run For The Sun" or Joplin Firefighters Association, both in care of the mortuary.
Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Parker Mortuary, Joplin, Missouri.
